This page explains what personal information The Water Helper collects, why, and what control you have over it. The short version: the bare minimum, and nothing is sold for money.
Who is responsible
The Water Helper is owned and operated by Rachel Taub, who is responsible for the information described here (see legal & disclosures). For any question about your information, or to exercise the rights described below, reach out through the contact page.
What is collected, and what for
Contact form
When you write in, we collect your name, email and message, for the sole purpose of answering you. Delivery is handled by our email provider, Resend.
Newsletter
If you sign up, we collect your email to send you new articles and tests. Sending is handled by Brevo. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
Analytics
With your agreement, we use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how the site is used (page views, device type, navigation paths, click areas). These tools load only after you accept in the cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time through the “Manage cookies” link at the bottom of every page.
Affiliate links
The site carries affiliate links, through the Amazon Associates Program. When a purchase follows one of our links, the publisher earns a commission at no extra cost to you. No affiliate tracking script runs on this site: attribution is carried by a parameter added to the link address and handled by Amazon. Any Amazon cookie is set by Amazon on its own site, only if you click one of our links and keep browsing there, and it falls under Amazon's own privacy policy.
Installer requests
If you use the “installation request” form, we collect your first name, last name, email, ZIP code and, if you provide it, your phone number. With your explicit agreement, that information is passed to a partner installer near you so they can get back to you about your project. These requests are handled through Brevo. You can withdraw your agreement or ask for deletion at any time through the contact page.
Submitting that form is also your written consent to be contacted at the phone number you give, including by an installer who did not have a prior relationship with you. If you would rather not be called, simply leave the phone field empty.
Who receives it
Apart from the installer introduction you request yourself, your information is not handed to third parties for their own marketing. It is processed by these providers, in the course of these services:
- Resend (sending contact emails)
- Brevo (newsletter and installer requests)
- Partner installers (introductions, only if you submit an installation request)
- Google (Analytics) and Microsoft (Clarity), only if you accept
- Amazon (affiliate link attribution), only if you click an affiliate link
- Cloudflare (site hosting, and bot protection on forms via Turnstile)
The Turnstile bot check runs when you submit a form. It looks at technical signals from your browser to tell a visitor from a script. It is not used for advertising or profiling, it asks you nothing on screen in the vast majority of cases, and it only runs at the moment you submit.
How long it is kept
- Contact messages: as long as needed to handle your request, then limited archiving.
- Newsletter sign-ups: until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics: for the lifetime of the cookies involved (generally up to 14 months).
Cookies, and what is stored in your browser
No analytics cookie is set until you accept. The only things stored without your agreement are those strictly needed to run the site — your consent choice itself, for example.
The site also remembers the city whose report you last looked up, in your browser's local storage, so the figure can follow you across guides and comparison tables. It is a city, not an address, it never leaves your device, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information is collected about you and why, to request a copy of it, to request its deletion, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of those rights. To make a request, write in through the contact page; we may need to confirm your identity before acting on it.
We do not sell your personal information for money. One case does deserve a plain explanation, though: when you submit an installation request, your details are passed to a partner installer, and under the CCPA that transfer can count as sharing personal information. It only ever happens because you asked for it and ticked the box, it never happens with any other form on this site, and you can ask us to stop and to have your details deleted at any time.
Children
This site is meant for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, write in and it will be deleted.
Where your information is processed
The providers listed above operate in the United States and elsewhere, so your information may be processed outside your own country. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you keep the rights your local law gives you — access, correction, erasure, objection, restriction and portability — and you can exercise them through the contact page.
